Want More Country Music? Don’t Just Look At The Major Label Artists…

August 11th, 2007 · Comments

I was looking around Myspace this morning and it’s amazing to see the many amazing country artists out there doing their own thing and getting themselves known — without the major labels. These country singers and bands are making a name for themselves on the web and it’s only uphill from there!Just to give you an idea on what is out there for talent, I pulled the top 5 unsigned country artists from MySpace:

1. Jessica Andrews - Judging from the number of profile views (over 2 million so far!) and the quality of her recordings available, she’s got a bright career ahead of her. She’s got the looks, talent and ambition — I look forward to following her career.

2. Corey Smith - Now here’s a busy country singer (at least judging by his show schedule on his MySpace page). This “Hard-Headed Fool” lists country influences like Willie Nelson on his site but it is cool to see that he has a great open mind and also has people like Bob Marley, Beck and 2Pac as influences. I like that. I also really liked the quality of his voice on the recordings - it was like he was right there in the room!

3. Rhett Atkins - Like his bio says, he was born to be a country singer. After moving to Nashville in 1992, his country music career has been uphill ever since. His new CD, People Like Me, was released back in June and I was able to hear the title track on his MySpace profile. Awesome tune!

4. Ashley Gearing - Since the age of 10, this girl has been singing her heart out — and very well too! She’s been on the Billboard Country Music charts, ASCAPs UnCut Diamond and even performed at The Grand Ole Opry! And she’s only 15! All I can say is, check her out — what a great talent that will only get better.

5. Shannon Haley - California girl, Shannon Haley has loved country music all her life and has been singing since she was six. In 2004, she attended UCLA and majored in vocal performance. Her amazing voice has also got her into some great Los Angeles clubs such as “Whisky A Go-Go” and “The Cowboy Palace”. She’s only going to go up in her career from here because she’s a beautiful singer who’s slowly gaining fans online and off.

So there you go….just some quick examples on what is out there to listen to on MySpace. There are literally 1000’s more to check out as well.
